‘The ConQuest Leadership Wenceslaus Anthony Memorial Award 2022’

The ConQuest Boys Cub have imparted Leadership Qualities to Boys between the ages of 8 and 14 years, and these Qualities revolved around the following 5 virtues: viz., Charity, Faith, Love, Responsibility, and Generosity; and, with keeping ‘Jesus as the Leader’. Many Boys from Holy Cross Parish, Henderson, were Members of this Club.

As a legacy and recognition of the contribution of Wenceslaus Anthony (who founded the ConQuest Boys Club), the Club has instituted an Award in his name, under the aegis of a Scheme blessed by our Good Shepherd, Rev Bishop Patrick Dunn. The Award is called ‘The ConQuest Leadership Wenceslaus Anthony Memorial Award’

This is an Annual Award and is given once in a calendar year to one of the 8 Parishes of the Western Deanery.
We have completed this Award Competition at St Mary’s Parish, Avondale, and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Glen Eden. This year (2022), the ConQuest Club has nominated Holy Cross Parish, Henderson to choose the Winner.

Salient features of the Award and the agreed process is as under:
1 The Award is open to Catholic Boys as well as Girls, between the ages of 8 and 14 years, and applicants should be Parishioners of Holy Cross Parish, Henderson

2 The Award carries a Cash Prize of $500 for the Winner (which may be shared jointly, in case of 2 finalists)

3 The Awardee will be chosen from Applicants who have displayed 1 or more of the 5 ConQuest virtues (Charity, Faith, Love, Responsibility, and Generosity, keeping ‘Jesus as the Leader’)

4 To qualify, Applicants need to submit to the Parish, a handwritten contribution or by email, stating why they believe they qualify for the Award, describing in a few words (about 80 to 100 words) how they have displayed Leadership Qualities in their experience at School or College or Community using 1 or more of the 5 ConQuest Virtues mentioned above

5 Contributions are to be sent directly to the Holy Cross Parish Office, Henderson; with the following subject line: ‘The ConQuest Leadership Wenceslaus Anthony Memorial Award 2022’. Emails to be sent to secretary@hendersoncatholic.org.nz. Please include a Mobile and / or Landline number in case we need to contact you quickly. Applications are now being received. The closing date for submissions is Monday, 22/08/2022.

6 The Parish Priest or his Assistant Parish Priest may also directly nominate 1 or more Candidates for the award, provided the Candidate meets the stipulated Criteria (including submitting an application)

7 Applications will be scrutinised by a Committee comprising the ConQuest Boys Club Leadership Team. Three Applications will be shortlisted, and these applicants will be called for a ‘Chat’ with the Leaders; and thereafter, a final Winner will be selected based on the quality and content of the Write up submitted as well as the Chat (total marks scored in both)

8 The Award will be presented to the Winner(s) on Sunday, 25-Sept-2022 during one of the morning (9 am or 10.30 am) Masses.

9 The decision of the ConQuest Boys Club Committee will be final and binding.
